Where should Matt Stafford go? (Blog 1)

Matt Stafford has been the Quarterback for the Detroit Lions since 2011. There has been rumors that he may be a good fit at Washington, Dallas and San Francisco. Matthew Stafford has two more years on his current contract with an average of $10 million a year.

Dallas Cowboys

The Dallas Cowboys would be a great fit, because Stafford grew up in Dallas and is a Cowboys fan. Dallas is working with their current Quarterback Dak Prescott on his long-term deal. If Dallas is not able to get that done, or feel like they are not on the same page as Dak, then bringing in Stafford would be a huge addition with the top ranked weapons that Dallas has already.

Washington Football Team

The Washington Football Team is in prime position for a playoff run, but they are short a game changing quarterback. Washington has a LOADED defensive line, but the time is ticking. Washington has spent the last 4 years first round pick on a defensive lineman and it has paid off big time, but to maintain those players it will require a lot of cap space, requiring the team to focus on who they plan to keep. In the meantime, bringing in an experienced quarterback to help this dominant defense by putting points on the board will benefit the team well enough to even make a Super Bowl run.

 San Francisco 49ers

The 49ers would be an insane fit for Stafford, and they have enough assets to trade and not take a hit. The 49ers have had a top 10 defense for the past two years, and have a very strong run game. They just cannot seem to have their quarterback stay healthy. Stafford has a strong history of staying healthy and could be one piece the 49ers need to be able to make another Super Bowl run.

  1. Hi Blake,

I really like this post, this NFL offseason should be one of the busiest probably of all time because of all the big name players that will be available either by trade or through free agency. Stafford to me makes a lot of sense with Dallas because he is from there and probably is very appealing to him if they don’t plan to bring back Prescott. I think that the WFT makes sense too because I feel that they are a QB away from being a very good team, but me personally I would rather like to see Watson end up there.

  2. I think Matthew Stafford deserves a team that could make a serious run for a Super Bowl. He has been loyal to Detroit even though they have not been good during his time, and the best player he’s ever played with (Calvin Johnson) retired extremely early. Of the three options, I think that San Francisco is the best bet for a potential championship run. They did it with Jimmy Garoppolo last year, I think they could do it with Stafford as well.

  3. Blake-

These are definitely three solid options for Stafford. I’m excited to see him join a different team and how that plays out for his career. Dallas certainly makes sense with him being from there and with everything going on with Prescott. The Washington Football Team would also be a solid choice, and I think would make for an entertaining team to watch. It should be interesting to see where he ends up!

  4. Blake,

This was a really interesting blog topic. Reading your reasonings for sending him to any of those teams were very insightful. I think now seeing that he was traded to the Rams makes your blog even more interesting because now you have your answer! Do you think that the Rams were a good fit for him to go? He now will have a few more weapons around him. Great blog!
